The Team

With 10 years of having formed the first Kiteboarding school in the department of La Guajira and with 20 years of experience in the teaching and execution of this sport, Martin Vega and Sophie Jackl of Kite Addict Colombia are pioneers of the water sports in Colombia.

Our Story

Almost 10 years ago we fell in love at sea practicing Kiteboarding, an extreme sport that depends on the wind. Martin grew up in Puerto Colombia and lived a lifetime in the sea, starting with windsurfing with only 12 years, practicing, teaching and competing. In 2005 he learned Kiteboarding and brought it to Puerto Velero. He has been teaching water sports for almost 20 years and managing nautical schools. He found his passion in sports and the support of young athletes. Sophie, a native of Germany, was a student of Martin and fell in love not only with the sport and la Guajira but also with the instructor! She studied International Development in Vienna and last year founded the Foundation Jouktai. Now she is the administrator of the school and the president of the foundation.

Our Beginning

We opened the first Kiteboarding school in La Guajira in 2011. We arrived at Cabo de la Vela, a town in nowhere, in the middle of the desert. The beginning was hard, only tourists arrived in the high seasons, until people found out that it was the perfect place to practice Kiteboarding. The sport drew a lot of attention of the young people of Cabo. We started teaching Nelson first, a Wayuu boy who has 10 siblings. We continued teaching his brother, cousins, friends, sister …. This child is now 20 years old and owns his own Kite school together with his brother Adalberto. Adalberto is part of the foundation and thanks to the support of many friends and clients, we were able to send him to China, to the Olympic games qualifier. From fishing and handicrafts these young people became the protagonists of their life and their future with bigger opportunities and a more open world view. We grew Cabo de la Vela from 0 to 5 Kite schools and a constant and sustainable tourism throughout the year.

New Family Member

Last year our daughter Amélie came into our lives, completely changing our world. We decided to move to Riohacha and with this, make new plans.

New Challenges

With an experience of 20 years and a social work already done satisfactorily, we seek to bring water sports to the city of Riohacha and its surroundings, and thus, increase tourism and contribute to the progress and development of the region.
